Sea Works: Case History

Italy, Genoa, Voltri harbour – under-billow docks on the East and West side E-mail

 

 

The under- billow dock on the West side that stretches in the sea and it’s 600 m long, is made of 20 reinforced concrete cassions with shafts having the following dimensions: m 30,10 x 15,94 .
The cassions are plunged at a depth of -18,00 m on a riprap bed that as laid by means of barges and ballasted with dredging sand.
The section at the foot of the dock is connected to the ground through a protection slope and a wall made of concrete artificial rocks weighing 40 tons each.
The under-billow dock on the eastern side develops for 1.665 m. and was built with two sections. The first one stretches from the breakwater towards the ground for 970,90 m. and is made of 32 reinforced concrete prefabricated cellular cassions that are laid on a riprap bed at changeable depths between -13 and -16 m and have a shaft that is 30,45 x 16,04 m.
The superstructure has a wave protection wall and it is shaped with a camping tank to contain the overflowing.
The second section develops for 694 m. and it’s of casting type and h s an external protection wall made of tetrapodes that weigh 40 tons on decreasing sea bottoms from a depth of -13 to -5,50.
